5 ways to cut up to save days off your frame stage

Back to news

Termite treated framing timber supplied in wall frames and roof trusses manufactured by Dahlsens.

Every day your frame stage runs over is a day your slab sits idle, your trades shuffle their schedules, and your next progress payment stays out of reach. For builders running multiple projects, that compound effect is real.

Here’s how leading builders are saving 5–6 days* in framing stage on a standard residential build, reaching the next progress payment sooner – without cutting corners, compromising quality, safety or compliance.

1. Before you begin: Upgrade to a fully co-ordinated prefab package

Smart builders are looking at how to streamline every stage of a build. They are either moving away from traditional stick-built framing and choosing prefabricated wall frames and roof trusses instead, or, they drill down on the differences between prefab offers and what will give them the edge.

From the get-go, a well-prepared prefab package should include:

  • Custom design to suit your exact plans
  • Advice on how to modify the design to reduce costs
  • 3D modelling and accurate layouts
  • Full documentation and code compliance
  • Complete, coordinated delivery to site
  • All ancillaries supplied together
  • High quality timber and components
  • A team who works with you to deliver what you need when you need it

Benefits of a good prefab package:

  • Everything arrives ready to install so crews can work faster with fewer interruptions.
  • You save on engineering fees compared to stick-built as an engineer is not designing every stick of timber for the build.
  • Less headaches, faster and smoother project.

POTENTIAL TIME SAVED: 3 – 4 DAYS (on an averaged-sized home when compared to stick built)*

Dahlsens provides 3D modelling of house framing using Pryda Build software for a complete view of your project. Their full truss and frame package will streamlines the build process for a faster, smoother project.

2. Wall frames: Replace brackets and ties with one-screw wall connections

Systems like the Pryda FastFix™ Internal Wall Screw (IWS) provide a faster alternative to traditional L brackets. Instead of 6–8 nails in an L bracket, it’s one screw – with built-in alignment guidance for accurate vertical positioning.

Pryda FastFix™ Framing Screws eliminate stud ties when a second top plate is required – again saving time.

You can save:

  • 3-4 hours connecting the truss bottom chord to the wall frame with Pryda IWS
  • Another 3-4 hours using Pryda framing screws

POTENTIAL TIME SAVED: Up to 1 DAY*

The Pryda FastFix™ Internal Wall Screw (IWS) replaces L brackets, is compliant, cuts costs and installation time. IWS comes with a placement guide and drill bit – everything is included. Both come with truss and frame from Dahlsens.

3. Roof trusses: Use pre-installed tie-down systems

Modern truss systems, including the Pryda SpeedTruss™ system supplied as standard with Dahlsens truss orders, help streamline roof installation.

The SpeedTruss system features Pryda FastFix™ tie-down screws where crews simply:

  1. Stand the truss
  2. Drive the screw
  3. Complete the connection

No triple grips. No skew nailing. No excessive nailing.

  • Save up to one full day on roof installation
  • Reduce use of pneumatic nail guns
  • Improve safety and reduce time working at heights
  • Better installation accuracy
  • Preferred by chippies and framing teams

POTENTIAL TIME SAVED: Up to 1 DAY*

The Pryda SpeedTruss™ system ensures all truss tie-downs are fast, simple and accurate. The roof trusses come with pre-installed tie-down screws ready to go to site. Dahlsens frame and truss comes standard with SpeedTruss.

4. Timber upgrade: Upgrade to engineered timber for straighter walls

Even quality pine can require straightening before sheeting and cladding – costing valuable time.

Upgrading from MGP10 to LVL10 in prefabricated wall frames can deliver:

  • Minimal, if any, packing or straightening required
  • Up to one day saved
  • Superior finish

5. Expert advice: Expert eyes can identify even more cost and time efficiencies

Experienced truss and frame manufacturers will review your plans and work with you to suggest:

  • Design refinements
  • Material substitutions
  • Engineering improvements
  • The aim should be to find the most economical solution without compromising on quality, compliance and the building schedule.

OUTCOMES: A supplier you can trust who has your back and works with you to streamline your projects and get the best results.

A good fabricator will work with you to find the most economical solution while optimising project outcomes for peace of mind.

De-risk frame stage even more: Include floor trusses for a complete solution

Using one coordinated supplier for wall frames, roof trusses and floor trusses helps reduce clashes and delays.

Where floor systems are required, Pryda engineered floor trusses (with timber or metal webbing) can:

  • Span longer distances
  • Incorporate built-in set-downs
  • Integrate seamlessly into overall truss and frame detailing
  • Make for a more rigid floor
  • Made to size for reduced waste
  • Provide space to run services thanks to the open webbing
Pryda Span Truss floor trusses with metal webbing allow for service penetrations. Pryda Longreach floor trusses with timber webbing are ideal for extra-long spans and rigidity.
