Gas hot water systems

Dahlsens supplies a range of energy efficient gas water heater systems. Ideal for customers who prioritise low running costs, Dahlsens supplied gas hot water systems have a minimum 4 star energy rating and are on average 33% cheaper to run than electric hot water systems. Dahlsens supplies both gas storage and gas continuous flow hot water systems.

Gas storage systems

Available in sizes ranging from 90 to 170 litres, gas hot water systems have the lowest supply and installation costs, making them a great option for budget conscious clients. These systems work by storing a generous amount of hot water in a storage tank unit, so your customers have reliable hot water whenever they need it. A major selling point for gas storage systems is that the water from these units is supplied at mains pressure, the highest pressure available for standard hot water systems. This means that your customers can run multiple showers or taps without losing water pressure.

Gas continuous flow systems

Also known as ‘instantaneous systems’ or ‘tankless systems’, a gas continuous flow system provides your customers with an uninterrupted hot water supply. These systems heat water as it passes through the hot water system, meaning they won’t run out of available heated water like a storage tank can. These systems are ideal for clients who do not run multiple water sources at the same time, and clients who value a low profile installation. Continuous flow systems are wall mounted and can be installed outdoors. They can also be recessed into walls, making them a sleek, inconspicuous option.

Electric hot water systems

An electric hot water system is typically cheaper to purchase and install, ideal for projects with a smaller budget. As the name suggests, they do not require gas to run and are a popular choice for apartments and newer developments. Dahlsens can supply both storage and continuous flow electric hot water systems.

Electric storage systems

Like their gas counterparts, electric storage hot water systems allow a large amount of water to be heated and kept in a tank. With flexible storage tank unit sizes available, there’s an electric storage system for any client. Dahlsens can supply electric storage tanks from a discreet 25L to a hefty 400L capacity.

Single element models

Single element hot water systems are the more traditional option and are being rapidly overtaken in popularity by twin element models. Single element systems have only one element which heats a water storage tank from the bottom. These models typically take much longer than twin element models to heat water, but may be an ideal option for smaller residential builds.

Twin element models

Twin element hot water systems have two elements and two thermostats. One element and thermostat is located at the top of the storage tank, and the others are located on the bottom of the storage tank.

The top element of a twin element water heater will run until the water in the top of the tank is heated sufficiently. When the water in the top of the tank is hot enough, the top element will switch off. Once the top element is switched off, the bottom element will heat the remainder of the water in the bottom of the tank.

The elements are triggered by separate thermostats to ensure water is heated evenly, and only one element will be active at any given time.

Electric continuous flow systems

Also referred to as electric instantaneous water heaters, an electric powered continuous flow system works much the same as its gas counterpart. Instantaneous systems are available in different killowatt models to suit projects from small residential to commercial builds.

Solar hot water systems

For customers who value a renewable energy source and low running costs, solar powered water heaters are an attractive option. Solar hot water systems give your clients the benefit of lower energy bills while enjoying a reliable supply of hot water. A solar hot water system can consist of different collection and heater installation options, allowing you to create the right hot water system for your clients needs. We recommend also exploring gas or electric booster options for solar hot water systems. Booster options ensure that your clients hot water supply is not interrupted during inclement weather.

Flat plate collectors

Flat plate solar collectors are the more common and recognisable option. Consisting of a flat panel and typically roof mounted, these collectors are coated with a heat absorbing material and topped with a glass or plastic sheet. Popular for a reason, flat plates are easy to install and maintain. This option is ideal for residential building projects.

Evacuated tube collectors

More suited for commercial or very large residential builds, roof mounted evacuated tube collectors provide optimal efficiency and performance. Consisting of a series of glass tubes instead of a flat panel, the vacuum sealed space inside each tube acts as insulation, trapping heat. Sunlight is able to penetrate the glass outer layer of the tubes, but is not able to escape. The inner layer of the tubes are coated with a material which converts sunlight into heat, which is then transferred to a fluid circulated through the tubes and stored in a hot water tank.

Solar hot water system installation options

Solar hot water systems can be either ground mounted or roof mounted.

  • Ground mounted: The solar powered hot water heater is located on the ground, with the collectors mounted on the roof
  • Roof mounted: The solar powered hot water heater is mounted on the roof, alongside the collectors. This is also referred to as a ‘close coupled installation’

How do heat pumps work?

Heat pumps extract heat from the air around them to heat your clients water. While they do use electricity to do this, a heat pump hot water system uses around 75% less electricity than comparable electric hot water systems. Cold climates are no barrier to heat pump ownership. Even on a cold night, heat pumps can still heat water effectively.

How are heat pumps better than other eco-friendly options?

Heat pumps use a renewable source of energy and do not produce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, making them an environmentally friendly choice. Their advantage over eco-friendly solar hot water systems is that heat pumps don’t require sunlight to work, they can operate in any weather conditions.
