TIACS Q2 update: mental health support for tradies and builders

This is a conversation starter with TradeMutt and Tiacs

Supporting the people behind every build

At Dahlsens, supporting builders isn’t just about supplying materials – it’s about backing the people behind the build, both on and off the job site.

That’s why we’re proud to support TIACS (This Is A Conversation Starter), by funding the free and confidential mental health support services they offer specifically to Australia’s blue-collar workforce.

Why mental health support for tradies matters

The latest TIACS impact update (October to December 2025) highlights just how real these pressures are across our industry.

  • 967 blue-collar workers accessed support in just three months

  • 40% of all clients were from construction

  • Most were aged 25–44 – right in the middle of building careers, businesses and families

  • Over 60% were based in regional areas

For many builders and tradies, especially in regional areas, access to support isn’t always easy. Services like TIACS help bridge that gap.

Accessible mental health support for tradies

One of the reasons TIACS is making a difference is simple – it fits around the way tradies actually work.

  • Available by phone or text

  • Sessions outside normal working hours

  • Free and confidential

Many people start with a quick text before moving to a call when they feel ready.

It’s support on their terms, when they need it most.

The pressures tradies are dealing with

The most common reasons people reached out in the last quarter include:

  • Relationship pressures

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Depression

  • Financial stress

  • Workplace burnout

As cost-of-living pressures increased toward the end of the year, TIACS also saw a rise in financial concerns, alcohol misuse and anger.

Importantly, 81 people reached out while experiencing suicidal thoughts, receiving ongoing support during critical moments.

For many builders, this reflects what’s already happening on site – tight timelines, rising costs and team pressures all adding up.

Real outcomes that go beyond the job site

These conversations are making a real difference – not just at work, but at home as well.

Clients reported:

  • Better communication and stronger relationships

  • Improved emotional control and coping strategies

  • Greater confidence and hope for the future

  • Healthier work-life balance

  • Increased willingness to talk about mental health on site

As one tradie shared:

“These sessions feel like I’m talking to a mate at the pub. I just feel comfortable opening up.”

Another said:

“To offer an out of hours service where I can talk about what I’m going through is such a great thing. What this service offers is priceless. I am forever grateful for your support and that of TIACS. This is the stuff that keeps me motivated to continue to move forward.”
