In our 145-year history evolving this family business, the thing we’re most proud of at Dahlsens is our culture.
It’s always been important that we’re a good place to be and a good business to work with. That our people know their contribution truly counts, that our team has each other’s backs, and that our customers know that we’re here to do our very best to support their success.
There are plenty of places to work and shop, but we think there’s something pretty special here at Dahlsens. We hope you benefit from the extra lengths our team go to because of their commitment to our way of doing things at Dahlsens.
Why do you turn up to work each day?
You feel a part of something and everyone genuinely cares. It’s not wallpaper over a crack – what people say, they mean.
David Tipper
Account Manager, Laverton
We deal with the big major builders, and we’re also dealing with the guys who build two or three homes a year. When you get that ‘thanks’ for a good job, it’s a good feeling. You’re getting told that you’re helping them put food on the table.
Glenn Landry-Stewart
Branch Manager, Cranbourne
The fact that I can pick up the phone, call the owners of the business and have a conversation with them, that John and Geoff will give me the time of day – that’s big.
Josh Trainer
Senior Category Manager, Support Office
Dahlsens is really a people focused business, and they support their team first and foremost.
Ray McIntosh
Account Manager, Albury Wodonga
Getting up in the morning, you want to go to work, you want to do the extra things. People are always there, they’ve got your back.
Dane Chambers
Account Manager, Bairnsdale
I like helping people. Getting people what they want, when they want it. It’s a good feeling to think I’ve made a bit of a difference.
Jo Chapman
Internal Sales, Bayswater
What makes you proud to work at Dahlsens?
I make it possible for people to own a house. Delivering materials to get the house built. That’s what makes me proud.
Joe Salie
Stock Champion, Laverton
Being able to write the next chapter of a 145-year-old business. I think that’s pretty exciting. The sky’s the limit.
Josh Trainer
Senior Category Manager, Support Office
I’m incredibly proud of the team. They all do an amazing job helping to support our customers, their communities and their families. We really appreciate them and want to provide opportunities so they can continue to grow with us.
Geoff Dahlsen
CEO
What does it mean to you, to work for a family-focused business?
What you may not know about Dahlsens is that we’re the largest independently owned building and hardware supplies business in Australia. We’re still family-owned, and operated and have been since 1877. I reckon that’s something the Dahlsen family should be proud of.
Dane Chambers
Account Manager, Bairnsdale
It’s a family environment here and I really strive to make that culture real and enjoyable for my team. When the hard times are on it’s head down, bum up. But when the good times are around, we can all have a joke and a laugh – it’s a good culture.
Shaun Beattie
Branch Manager, Gosford
My dad worked here for close to 40 years so between me and the old man, we’ve got close enough to 60 years of service. You wouldn’t be here if something wasn’t right.
Dane Chambers
Account Manager, Bairnsdale
How does Dahlsens help builders succeed?
It’s one thing to say “we’ll look after you”, it’s another thing to actually do that. We do both. We put our hand up and say “we’re with you”, and we are. We never shirk away from anything. That’s what we do.
Dane Chambers
Account Manager, Bairnsdale
Our team are knowledgeable and we can supply everything you need for the job. From foundation to fit out.
